Downtown Portland Hosts Free Ugly Sweater Decorating Party at Punch Bowl Social

Monday, November 25, 2013

Free event also serves as warm clothing drive for Transition Projects

PORTLAND, Ore. (Nov. 25, 2013) — Downtown Portland is decking the halls with ugly sweaters! People of all ages are invited to Punch Bowl Social in Pioneer Place on Saturday, Dec. 7, where they can decorate holiday sweaters while enjoying free games, holiday treats and more – all while supporting Transition Projects with a warm clothing drive.

“People are really getting into this year’s ugly sweater holiday campaign that has outfitted downtown statues with holiday attire,” says Courtney S. Ries, director of the Downtown Marketing Initiative. “This is an opportunity for Portlanders to get in on the fun by creating festive attire of their own.”

Attendees of the Ugly Sweater Decorating Party will be encouraged to channel their inner Picasso and adorn a sweater with puffy paint, pom-poms, glitter and more. People can bring their own sweater if it needs a little extra holiday spirit, or a limited number of sweatshirts will also be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. A photo booth with props will help capture the day’s creations, which will then be submitted on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for a chance to win the title of “Portland’s Ugliest Sweater!”

After decorating a sweater, guests can test their skills at shuffleboard, bowling, darts or belt out some holiday carols in the karaoke lounge – all for free.

In addition to the festive fun, the decorating party will serve as a warm clothing drive for Transition Projects. This local organization helps transition homeless to housing and is partnering with Downtown Portland this holiday season, with a number of donation locations throughout downtown.
