Maialata, the Celebration of the Pig

When the winter frost covers the hillside vineyards and the gardens go dormant, the small mountain towns of Italy get ready for a feverish day of gastronomic delight. It is the Maialata, the celebration of the pig. Farmers, children, priests and village authorities gather to butcher the local pigs. All day, these mountain communities work together to prepare the next year’s charcuterie, sausages, and roasts. And all night they would feast on the bounty of their labor. Watershed works with partners with Cathy Whims of Nostrana and Rudy Marchesi of Montinore Estate to translate their vision and interest in Old World traditions into relevant, sexy and fun events. We understand what creates a memorable event as well as a compelling narrative. We also understand the power of visual storytelling. That’s why we make sure to capture our events with the highest quality photography possible.
