A Michelin Star Experience, In Three Sweet Courses, Now At Castagna
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 21, 2013) – Summer is finally here – and Castagna restaurant is making it a sweet one. Formerly only available to diners “in the know,” the famed Portland restaurant is revealing their three-course dessert tasting menu for all to enjoy.
Lauded by The Oregonian for his “powerfully creative dishes,” Chef Justin Woodward applies his adventurous palate and passion for local ingredients to desserts with the same enthusiasm he has for savory dishes.
“He’s the only Portland chef cooking at Michelin-star level,” says Karen Brooks, Portland Monthly food critic and author of The Mighty Gastropolis.
Castagna’s guests will discover a rotating procession of Woodward’s inventive and ingredient-driven desserts, such as meringue tart with green strawberry sorbet, verjus and rosewater, or sweet corn pudding with blackberries and huckleberry/mescal sorbet.
“Summer brings a cavalcade of berries and stone fruits,” says chef Woodward. “This summer, I’ve been inspired by cocktails and beverages, like sweet tea, peaches and lemon verbena, or berries and raw milk. Hopefully, with a little twist, I can reveal these fruits to our guests in a new way.”
The dessert tasting menu features all of the inventive flair the restaurant is known for, at a fraction of the price – the three desserts cost only $25, with an optional wine pairing for $12 – allowing everyone to enjoy the creations of Castagna’s resident “artist in bloom.” Of course, for those who prefer dessert at the end of a meal, all three desserts are also included in the full chef’s tasting menu and a choice of desserts is included in the four course prix fixe.
Castagna is open for dinner and dessert Wednesday through Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended. For more information visit their website at www.castagnarestaurant.com or call Castagna at 503.231.7373. Castagna is located at 1752 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland, Oregon 97214.
